Medical Director
James Allen, MD PhD is the Medical Director of Travel Health Resource™. He is board certified in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine, holds a PhD in microbiology, and has earned a Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health through a certifying examination from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He is an Infectious Diseases and Travel Medicine specialist and the founder and director of Travelers’ Medical and Immunization Service, a travel medicine clinic in the Chicago area established in 1990. He has twice been named as one of the top physicians in Chicago by his peers.

Dr. Allen personally counsels travel patients on a daily basis in his travel clinic. In his role as a travel medicine consultant to numerous Fortune Five Hundred corporations, Dr. Allen is continually researching the latest travel medicine information and advising travelers traversing every corner of the world.
As a highly sought after speaker, Dr. Allen has given presentations internationally and domestically to corporations, physicians, nurses, students and travelers on the topics of travel medicine, hepatitis, malaria and other travel health issues. He is dedicated to and has a passion for travel medicine and enjoys educating individuals with accurate and easily understood travel health information.
Dr. Allen has extensive travel experience. He regularly participates in medical missionary work to Kenya, Africa caring for patients with HIV/AIDS and has provided medical services in Peru, Ecuador, Honduras, Costa Rica and Nepal. He has trekked in the Annapurnas in Pokhara, Nepal, biked down Cotopaxi mountain in Ecuador, and floated the Amazon Rivers in Peru and Ecuador.
